TSC is a proprietary, synthetic small molecule invented by Diffusion Pharmaceuticals’ co-founder, Dr. John Gainer, which safely and selectively enhances the diffusion of oxygen into hypoxic tissue by a novel mechanism of action.
When delivered systemically, TSC re-oxygenates hypoxic tumor tissue without hyper-oxygenating normal tissue. TSC does not need to be injected directly into the tumor to be effective, nor does it need to cross the blood brain barrier – it only needs to be present in the blood stream. Re-oxygenation of hypoxic tumor cells by TSC sensitizes the tumor to radiation therapy, significantly boosting the tumor killing power of a standard dose of radiation.
